FEURA -Mariposa

Directed by LEONE

Mariposa seamlessly merges live performance, music video, editorial photography, and visual art. Directed by LEONE and curated by C41 Magazine, the project breaks free from conventional music video language. In our interview with LEONE, we get to learn about how he has leveraged artificial intelligence in the creation of the storyboard, his collaboration with digital artist Karol Sudolski and what he has planned for the future of his production company, C41.

What inspired the concept of merging live performance, music video, editorial photography, and visual art into a single multisensory experience?

Tired and bored with the language of contemporary music videos, in agreement with Fuera, we decided to invest our energy and creativity into an integrated project that better responds to the contemporary context and the band's target audience.

A project that is not limited to the shooting, but aims to be perceived as a visual art performance.

C41 played a key role in the creative direction and execution of this project. Could you elaborate on the collaborative process between your team and FUERA, particularly in translating their artistic vision into this live experience?

The process followed by the C41 team took advantage of artificial intelligence to create the storyboard and visualise the aesthetic look of the project. This was the only difference from all other projects followed by the C41 team.

Could you share the challenges and learnings you encountered while orchestrating such a diverse artistic presentation?

The project was very easy to organise because we had plenty of time to prepare it. We weren’t rushed to deliver it, which is what traditional clients usually impose.

We love the work of digital artist Karol Sudolski. What was the collaboration like? How did it come about and how did you brief them?

For a long time, I have been interested in collaborating with Karol Sudolski, because his style represents and is also very close to my idea and taste for digital art. So once I got the project started, he was the first person I called and he integrated perfectly and immediately into the C41 team, compensating for our lack in the field of visual effects and digital art.

C41 always tries to highlight the work of artists and photographers around the world and in this case, we chose to bet on Karol.

What's next for C41 and where are you taking the creative production company and magazine? Are there any upcoming projects that reflect this direction or evolution in your work?

In concrete terms, we have the installation and opening of Rory Gardiner's exhibition in our C41 Gallery, an artist and photographer who reflects the editorial path the magazine is taking.

As a production company, we are working on our first fiction film which we hope will be released soon. As a creative studio, we have just signed the new Brunello Cucinelli and Carhartt campaigns, to be released before the Christmas holidays.

The best is yet to come.
